If you’ve ever been on a first date, you’d know just how exciting they can be. But, along with that, they can be a lot of work. While questions like “what do you do?” and “where are you from?” are important to ask, they don’t exactly make for a fascinating conversation.
No one wants to waste their time on anything not worth their while. Luckily, significant research has gone into relationship psychology, from which we’ve gathered that a couple of questions can accelerate the connection between a to-be couple.

If you have a date to look forward to in the next few days, be sure to incorporate the following questions into the conversation. Even if you don’t, be sure to bookmark this article and come back to it when you’re getting back out there.
1. What does your ideal relationship look like?
This question helps reveal what type of partner a person is seeking out. Or, what kind of relationship they’re hoping to have. Is their ideal relationship something that leads to marriage, with a stay-at-home partner to look after the kids? Do they want to build a power couple? Are they hoping to build a business with their partner? If your ideals match, you might want to ask for a second date. If not, you might have to end it there.

2. What qualities do you seek in your significant other?
This question will help you uncover whether the person will be able to adjust to you and your ways. If you’re far from what they want their partner to be like, the chances of a future together automatically become slim. Apart from that, their not being able to list any qualities might be a sign of immaturity or lack of self-awareness. If someone doesn’t know what they want from a partner, it’s best to skip the second date.
3. Does someone think you’re dating them right now?
This could be a playful way of asking if there’s anyone else in the picture at the moment. If they talk about a “stalker ex” who “just won’t leave them alone”, that’s code for there’s still something there. This could also be a good way to inquire whether or not the person does monogamy. You can get to know a lot about the relationship views of a person with just this one question as it opens up a whole ground for discussion.

Wrapping It Up
Other questions you might want to ask could be their relationship with their parents and/or immediate family, their emotional maturity i.e. whether or not they’re doing okay emotionally, what makes them happy, or what their perfect day looks like. No matter how strong the initial connection might be, first dates can be somewhat uncomfortable. But, you need to go in with some deep questions to find your perfect match.
