This image from 1911 shows the Wyoming State Prison’s baseball team, who played against the team of a local company called Wyoming Supply Company Juniors. And they were promised that if they played well enough, their death sentences would be delayed, even though the captain knew that it was just a matter of time.

All convicts of the most gruesome crimes were treated like proper athletes and given brand new uniforms for the game. And since they were playing for their lives, they managed to defeat their opponents 11-1. This has got to be the second-best jail story after “Shawshank Redemption.”
