Ruth Lee Flies A Chinese Flag While Sunbathing In Florida
A flag is probably the last thing on your things to bring to the beach list, but for Ruth Lee, it was a necessity. A worker at Ruby Food’s Restaurant reportedly borrowed a Chinese flag from a friend to fly while she sunbathes in Miami Beach.
The reason? Well, she didn’t want to be mistaken for someone who is of Japanese descent. This photo was taken during the ’40s, a time when Japanese Americans were being sent to internment camps after Japan’s military attacked Pearl Harbor during the onset of World War II.
