Before Julia Roberts became America’s sweetheart, thanks to “Pretty Woman,” she made moviegoers cry starring in the 1989 film “Steel Magnolias.” The role even earned her an Oscar nom, which made it known early on that she was as talented as she was charming.
Roberts, who made her film debut in “Satisfaction” in 1988, became a box office draw in the ’90s and ’00s. She’s the first Hollywood actress to command $20 million for one movie. She remains an in-demand endorser today, too, and appeared in a commercial for the luxury watch brand Chopard in 2021.
