Helen Shapiro – Age 74
Back in the ’60s, British pop singer Helen Shapiro was, along with The Beatles, the talk of the town. It was hard not to become obsessed with her powerful voice as evident in her songs “Walkin’ Back to Happiness” and “You Don’t Know,” which she recorded when she was just a teen.
Despite her popularity and clamor for collaborations with other jazz artists, Shapiro retreated from the limelight to focus on gospel songs. In an interview with Riveting Riffs Magazine, she opened up about saying goodbye to a lucrative career, admitting that it wasn’t a hard decision to make.
