Lockheed Martin VH-71 Kestrel – Cost: $241 Million
The safety of the President of the United States (POTUS) is of the utmost importance, which led the government to shell out a large amount of money in the early ’00s to purchase a new fleet of presidential helicopters. This led to the creation of the Lockheed Martin VH-71 Kestrel.
The VH-71 Kestrel was designed to fit 18 passengers and to be able to withstand all weather conditions. Despite the project costing a lot of money, it was unfortunately scrapped in 2009 due to the rising cost of manufacturing the 23 helicopters. However, two years later the entire lot was sold to Canada for a total of $164.
