General Atomics MQ-1 Predator – Cost: $40 Million
The United States Department of Defense had been searching for a warfighter with the ability to conduct both reconnaissance and strike operations, and their answer was the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator. This aircraft was introduced to the Air Force in 1995 and has seen great success, having surpassed one million hours of development and combat by 2011.
However, there have been a few hiccups along the way. In 2017, two MQ-1 Predators crashed within the same week. An accident investigation board was formed to determine the cause of the second incident, which was revealed to be a loss of satellite link.
