Boy Discovers Long-Abandoned Metal Object in a Lake—War Secrets Uncovered

The Iconic Tank

The T-34 tank’s arrival in World War II caused quite a commotion. This 27-ton Russian tank was equipped with a 76.2-mm cannon (caliber 41.5) capable of penetrating the armor of German tanks from distances ranging between 1.5-2 thousand meters.

In contrast, German tanks could only strike the Russians from a maximum distance of 500 meters, even if the shells hit the side and rear of the tank. Historical records show that the Germans later captured a Soviet ‘Trophy Tank’ in the summer of 1944, which they repainted. Nevertheless, the discovery of this tank under Lake Kurtna Matasjarv raises a series of inquiries about its history and purpose.
