Boy Discovers Long-Abandoned Metal Object in a Lake—War Secrets Uncovered
A Strategic Move
The primary armament of the T-34 tank was the 76 mm gun, along with two 7.62 mm Degtyaryov machine guns to augment its firepower. During the Battle of Tannenberg Line, the Germans captured a T-34 tank that was being operated by the Red Army. After refurbishing it, they re-painted their identification on the tank.
However, on September 19, 1944, as part of a planned retreat along the Narva Front, the German army decided to prevent the T-34 from falling into Soviet hands by sinking it in Lake Mätasjärv. This strategic move ensured that the tank could not be used against them in future battles.
