Punition turns Passion
Proponents of the reformative theory believe offenders should be reformed rather than punished. This was what unknowingly played out in a U.S. high school. A student had pulled a prank, and in a bid to punish the student, the principal made him read the U.S. Constitution. Many would find an activity like this boring, but not Thurgood Marshall.
He found out he enjoyed it so much and even memorized parts. Eventually, he would become a lawyer and etched his name into the history books by arguing and winning the racial segregation case, Brown v. Board of Education. History was made in 1967 as Marshall became the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.
