Disney Fun: Hilarious Hijinks at One of the Happiest Places on Earth!

Disneyland’s Retro Mermaids: A Faded Splash

At Disneyland in the 1950s, four women ruled the lagoon. They were hired as mermaids, adding a dose of real-world enchantment to the park. Dressed in bikinis that turned heads — without revealing too much like nowaday bikinis — they swam gracefully amongst the rides, delighting the crowd. However, the mermaid gig didn’t last. High chlorine levels in the water led to health concerns, forcing Disney to pull the plug.

Today, the mermaid stint is a quirky, nearly forgotten piece of Disneyland history. This picture is a nostalgic throwback to a time when the park experimented with its brand of magic in truly unique ways.
