Meet Our Adorable Titans: Don’t Judge These Gentle Giants By Their Size!

The Alpha-Male Rooster!

Behold the epitome of dominance and authority: the alpha-male rooster reigning supreme in the chicken coop. In the intricate social hierarchy of chickens, a pecking order is established. Fascinatingly, the concept of this pecking order was first observed and studied by Norwegian zoologist Thorleif Schjelderup-Ebbe in 1904.

Thorleif’s observations unveiled a world where squabbles over food during the initial days determined the ranking and pecking order. In these avian societies, alpha chickens and roosters are bestowed with privileges, such as first access to water and food. In mixed-gender flocks, the male roosters often exhibit dominance, taking on the role of leaders and guardians, overseeing a harem of 10 to 15 hens.
