Money Lessons You Can Learn From the Amish Lifestyle That’ll Turn Your Finances Around
If You’re not Amish, You’re Simply “English”
The fundamental objective of the Amish community is to keep a strict distance between themselves and non-Amish lifestyles. They may do this, for example, by referring to strangers as ‘English.’ We can attribute this to the language barriers that separated Germans from other ethnic groups during colonial times.
The Germans did not have colonies, unlike the French, English, and Spanish, so when the Amish spoke about other peoples, they referred to them as English. To this day, an Amish considers you to be English, regardless of your origin. Even though they set themselves apart from outsiders, they get along well with their non-Amish neighbors.
