Growing up is challenging for most teenagers, but the Hensel twins faced even bigger hurdles. Brittany stopped growing when she was 12, while Abby continued to get taller. This difference threatened to cause mobility issues if not addressed medically. Their parents and doctors made a tough decision: Abby would undergo spine surgery to limit her height.
The operation also aimed to reduce the effects of scoliosis, a condition causing excessive sideways curve of the spine, to which the girls were susceptible. Luckily, the surgery improved their lives, making it easier for them to move around.
