The 45 Greatest Songs of All Time That Sparked A Cultural Reset

All Along the Watchtower, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1968, R&B/Soul

“All Along the Watchtower” was originally written and recorded by singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Six months after its release, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their version of the song, which received critical and commercial success. It landed a Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 and reached the top 20 on the Billboard charts, marking Hendrix’s highest-ranking American single.

In a 1985 Biograph album by Bob Dylan, he mentioned that he liked The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s version of the record and has been fascinated to sing covers of it, too, as if it wasn’t his own. He also expressed his overwhelming feelings after hearing about its development and success.
