The Most Scandalous Moments in Olympic History Revealed!
The Tragic Case of Knud Enemark Jensen in Rome 1960
The 1960 Rome Olympics saw a tragic event during the scorching Italian summer. Danish cyclist Knud Enemark Jensen collapsed from apparent heat stroke during the 62-mile (100km) race, crashing and fracturing his skull. This incident marked the second death of an Olympic competitor following the demise of Portuguese marathon runner Francisco Lázaro in 1912.
Knud’s death, however, came with a cloud of mystery. Allegations of doping emerged, suggesting that performance-enhancing substances might have played a role in his condition. Although the complete autopsy report was never released, Knud’s trainer and one of the autopsy doctors hinted at the presence of illicit substances, adding a layer of controversy to this tragic loss.
