Winston Churchill – 1940, London, United Kingdom – Speech Addressed to the House of Commons
Winston Churchill delivered a long list of memorable speeches during his lifetime. Among these is the one he addressed to the House of Commons in 1940, which is perhaps best remembered for the quote “We shall fight on the beaches.”
The address followed the success of the Dunkirk evacuation and served as a rallying call for the tough road ahead as World War II was still in full swing at the time. Although not broadcast to the public, Churchill’s words lived on in several films scenes, such as in the 2017 biopic “Darkest Hour.”
