The Truth About Togo: What They Didn’t Tell You About The Amazing Dog Hero Of The Serum Run
Togo’s Story Begins

Togo’s amazing deeds during the serum relay along with many others during his lifetime were only befitting of a dog that had always seemed very different from birth. His story begins on the dark, brutally cold Alaskan day of October 17, 1913, when he was delivered in Seppala’s dog shelter.
He was bred through a female Siberian named Dolly and Seppala’s former lead dog, Suggen. The dog was given the birth name of Cugu, an unassuming word that simply meant puppy in the Northern Sami language. It was later, perhaps after his acumen had been recognized, that he was named after the great Japanese Admiral, Tōgō Heihachirō.
