These Rare Photos Reveal the Secrets of Titanic’s Tragic Voyage
The Photographer’s Lucky Escape
Father FM Browne, an accomplished photographer, captured this rare image of Captain Edward J. Smith and Hugh Walter McElroy, the helmsman of the RMS Titanic. These men held the responsibility of overseeing the world’s largest vessel during its inaugural voyage. But though Browne was invited on the maiden voyage, he disembarked in Queenstown, Ireland, avoiding the tragedy that was to unfold.
On the other hand, Smith and McElroy remained on board when the Titanic collided with an iceberg and met its infamous demise. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the men who played critical roles in the ship’s fateful journey.
