These Rare Photos Reveal the Secrets of Titanic’s Tragic Voyage

He Saw It Coming

Charles Melville Hays was a passenger aboard the Titanic who had an impressive career as the president of two major travel companies. He was a visionary who had the foresight to see the risks involved in building bigger and faster ships for luxury and speed. Despite his warnings, his advice went unheeded.

Hays also had a premonition about the ship’s fate. As such, his tragic death in the disaster served as a reminder of the consequences of unchecked competition. Interestingly, Hays was carrying a manuscript of a book he had written titled “The Inside History of the Building of the Titanic.” The book was lost as the ship sank.
