Monica Lewinsky
Monica Samille Lewinsky (born in San Francisco, California, July 23, 1973) is an American activist, television personality, and fashion designer. She became known for the Lewinsky scandal, also known as Monicagate. The then-President of the United States, Bill Clinton, later admitted to having an “inappropriate relationship” with Lewinsky while she worked as an unpaid intern (an entry-level, low-relevance staff position) at the White House between 1995 and 1996, when she was 22 years old.
The scandal broke after sexual harassment accusations were brought against Clinton by Paula Jones, and following President Clinton’s admission under oath of extramarital affairs with Gennifer Flowers. The scandal led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
After the scandal, Lewinsky gained international recognition and pursued various projects, including designing a line of handbags under her name and working as a spokesperson and television personality. Later, she withdrew from public life to earn a master’s degree in psychology in London. In 2014, she returned to public life as a social activist against cyberbullying.
