All aboard Japan’s “Women First” Express! Due to some unsavory characters making public transit a not-so-fun experience for women, Japan introduced a zesty twist to their metro: women-only subway cars! Nestled cozily at the train’s tail, these pink-carpeted carriages are a no-guy zone.
However, there are exceptions! Little kids and men with disabilities are given the all-clear, and the metro staff ensures no rule-breakers hop aboard. The penalty for crashing the party is often a hefty fine. And inspired by this genius move, other cool concepts are hitting the road, like women-only taxis, which have proven to be a safe haven for women on late-night journeys.
