A country girl riding a mechanical bull in a pink bikini can be an iconic image, but the truth is that bull riding has its roots in Mexico. As early as the 16th century, Mexican people were organizing bull-inspired contests known as “jaripeos.” Mechanical bulls, while a bonafide American invention, can be incredibly dangerous.
According to ScienceDirect, over 27,000 injuries related to mechanical bulls have been reported in the United States alone between 2000 and 2020. These injuries demonstrate the need for proper safety precautions when riding mechanical bulls. Despite the danger, the activity remains a popular and iconic pastime in America.
