Old And Modern Beauty

The term ‘Southern Belle’ is a uniquely American expression inspired by the French word for ‘beautiful.’ It was used to refer to young women living in the South who were coming of age and wanted to find a suitable husband. Sallie Ward, a Kentucky aristocrat who was married four times between 1849 and 1885, is an iconic example of a Southern belle.
Nowadays, the term has unfortunately fallen out of favor and is no longer used to describe Southern women. Instead, they are now celebrated for their independent spirit rather than their desire to find a husband. This photo also proves the beauty and courage of Southern women.
