Despite the woman and the alligator’s photogenic status, the official state reptiles of Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi are not known for being particularly friendly or sociable. Cold-blooded animals like American alligators would much rather be left undisturbed in their natural habitat, rather than be featured on someone’s Instagram page.
Fortunately, American alligators have become a success story when it comes to endangered species. National Geographic has reported that the population of American alligators has increased dramatically over the years due to federal regulations and conservation efforts. Their nearly extinct status improved, with over one million of these creatures living in the wild.
