Women In Rodeo History
There are no female participants in the rodeo competition featured because of an unfortunate incident that happened in 1929. A female bronc rider died during a rodeo event, and since then, many people have believed that rodeos should not be a place for women.
However, women in rodeo history were not an uncommon sight. Annie Oakley, the iconic 19th-century cowgirl, used to ride bulls and was a great example of a female rodeo rider. Fannie Sperry Steele was even inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1978. These brave women in the past have shown us that they can be just as capable in the rodeo ring.
