Sam Smith—1992, Singer, Genderqueer
Singer and songwriter Sam Smith has made a name for themself. After some collaborative work early in their career, they struck gold after releasing their EP titled “Nirvana” with “Stay with me” bringing worldwide recognition. In a 2014 interview with The Fader, they revealed they were gay.
In 2017, they announced they were genderqueer. Smith became one of the first non-binary artists in 2019, professing a preference for the pronouns they/them. When they aren’t narrating the struggles of being gay through songs like “Him,” we get to hear them serenade us with other beautiful masterpieces. The 2020 album is their third studio album.
