John Wayne, Died At Age 72, 1907–1979
The younger generations may not know who John Wayne is as he is now long gone. However, those from the Golden Age who are still around will know exactly who we’re talking about. He emerged during the ’20s and maintained a steady career for five decades.
Considered one of the greatest male actors of the time, Wayne was known for films such as “Stagecoach,” “The Grit,” and his final role on “The Shootist,” of which the role was a bit close to his heart. Why? Because he played a gunfighter battling cancer in the movie and was battling stomach cancer in real life. He died on June 11, 1979.
