Gene Hackman – Corporal: 1946
Author and actor Gene Hackman was not a good marine. After dropping out of high school at age 16 and lying about his age to enlist, it took Hackman only a few months to go from basic training to a duty station in China. He even got demoted three times for leaving his post without permission.
After leaving the military, Hackman took on various odd jobs before enjoying a successful acting career. He then retired in 2004. In a 2021 interview with the New York Post, Hackman confirmed that the 1971 classic “The French Connection” was a highlight that helped him in his career.
