The Most Gothic House In St. Petersburg
Gothic architecture dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries and was prominent in Western, Northern, and Central Europe. Although not prevalent there, Russia wasn’t entirely immune to its charm, and you’ll find some buildings showing characteristics of this type of design. One person who was drawn to this design was Russian noble Alexander Kelch.
He is famous for commissioning Peter Carl Fabergé to create the Kelch Gothic Revival silver service and was also quite a fan of Gothic design. This is why he had this house in St. Petersburg built, which has all the gothic characteristics: Tall structures, pointed arches, vaulted ceilings, stained glass, and art in the walls.
