The Nine Reigning Kings Of Europe In A Rare Photo
Here’s a kind of photo we might never see again. On the occasion of King Edward VII’s funeral in 1910, the nine reigning kings of Europe traveled to London to mourn the monarch. Following this gathering at Windsor Castle, four of the sovereigns pictured here would be deposed, according to the Ann Ronan Picture Library.
Today, only five of the monarchies represented in the image exist—Norway, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Denmark. It’s worth noting though, that all of them are constitutional monarchies, which means that the reigning king or queen no longer has the power to influence the politics of their state.
