A World War I Soldier Comforting An Ally’s Distressed Child
It’s often women, children, and the elderly who are particularly vulnerable in cases of armed conflicts and wars. A case in point is this distressed child who lost its mother when enemy forces attacked Mons, Belgium, during the tail end of World War I in 1918.
With the child’s beloved parent gone, a soldier from the Canadian forces who fought on the same side as the Belgian army stepped in to console the poor kid. Fortunately, the child wasn’t fully orphaned. Its father was pictured standing just nearby in another angle of this image.
