Computer Programmer Margaret Hamilton With A Stack Of Apollo Code

Without context, this bespectacled lady seems just like your typical bookworm standing next to a pile of her to-read books. In reality, though, this is computer programmer Margaret Hamilton posing with a stack of Apollo Guidance Computer source code she helped write.
According to NASA, it was her systems approach that proved critical to the success of Apollo 11 spaceflight in 1969, which saw mankind land and walk on the Moon for the first time. Hamilton was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 for her contributions in making that historic event possible.
