The Dutch Resistance Celebrating The End Of World War II

When World War II erupted in Europe in the ’40s, it wasn’t only the soldiers who fought the Axis powers. The Dutch resistance endeavored to end Nazi occupation mostly through non-violent means. Some citizens, for example, held demonstrations at the University of Leiden as Germany’s forces cracked down on Dutch people of Jewish descent.
That said, it’s no shock that people in The Netherlands rejoiced upon hearing about the demise of Adolf Hitler and the subsequent end of World War II in 1945. Here are some members of the Dutch resistance gathered around a radio as they celebrate a hard-fought victory over the Nazis.
