“Curious George” Escaped Paris

The fear of Nazi occupation had many residents fleeing Paris in 1940. And the Jewish couple, Hans and Margaret Rey were one of many who left the city. When you’re in a hurry to escape the German Invasion, there’s not a lot you can carry, especially when your means of transportation is a bicycle.
Hence it was no surprise that the Reys could only strap their winter coats and four picture books to their bicycle racks. How lucky is it that one of those books was the manuscript of the now-famous children’s picture book, “Curious George?” The books have been adapted into animated adventure films, including the 2021 release “Curious George: Cape Ahoy.”
