Author’s coat gets cast in The Wizard of Oz

Speaking of exciting and unbelievable facts, here’s another. When L. Frank Baum wrote the original “Wizard of Oz” books, he probably didn’t cast his mind to the possibility of his books becoming movie adaptations. But as we all know, that happened. During filming, the wardrobe department needed an elegant but shabby-looking coat.
Unfortunately, that’s not something you can pick out of a high-end store, so they were asked to choose from a whole rack of coats from a second-hand store. Interestingly, the final choice turned out to be a coat that belonged to Frank Baum.
