Kyle v. Kylie: A Battle of Names

The name Kylie may be increasingly common. But if there’s one person who comes to mind when the name comes up, it’s Kylie Jenner of the Kardashian family. But it’s one thing to be a globally-recognized celebrity, and it’s another to attempt monopoly over a famous name.
So when Jenner tried to trademark the name ‘Kylie’ in the U.S., she was sued by Australian singer, Kylie Minogue who had been performing as ‘Kylie’ since the 1980s. Upon winning the lawsuit in 2017, Minogue’s lawyer called Jenner a secondary television personality. But, of course, a little pettiness is allowed once you’ve been branded a winner.
