The Slaps Were Real! – Irene Ryan As Daisy Moses in The Beverly Hillbillies
Black-and-white comedies don’t get any better than “The Beverly Hillbillies,” a 1962 TV series that made American viewers laugh for roughly 270 episodes. One of the show’s funniest characters was the grandma ‘Daisy Moses,’ portrayed brilliantly by the late Irene Ryan.
‘Daisy’ was known for her rather cruel personality and for constantly slapping some sense into the character of ‘Jethro Bodine’ (portrayed by Max Baer Jr.). While Ryan was described as a sweet lady (the complete opposite of ‘Daisy’), she once revealed that the slaps she gave Baer Jr. were real, albeit not too painful.
