Before ominously claiming, “It’s not the end of the world,” ‘Ed’ (portrayed by Nick Frost) is trying to comfort his best bud ‘Shaun’ (Simon Pegg). He’s trying to make his friend—who’d been dumped by his girlfriend—laugh by making a series of funny descriptions of the other people drinking at the local pub.
What’s most impressive is that director Edgar Wright gave full liberty to Frost in the scene. The actor’s improvised lines ended up being complemented by a series of well-crafted shots, but it’s still remarkable that Frost could come up with so much top-quality comedy content on the spot.
