Kesha – Malaysia

Pop stars have it tough in Malaysia. In order to adhere to Malaysia’s Muslim laws, female performers in particular are required to cover their entire body before taking the stage. Kesha experienced a sample of the cultural clash in 2013 when her concert in Kuala Lumpur was postponed a day before it happened.

Due to concerns that it would “hurt cultural and religious sensitivities,” the pop star’s show was postponed by the government. The show’s organizers tried to get the authorities to relent, and we were prepared to change whatever needed to be changed, but they were unmoved. The result was a huge financial loss for the organizers.
