Patrick Henry – 1775, Richmond, Virginia – Speech to the Second Virginia Convention
Some people are remembered for the things they did, while some for the things they said. Patrick Henry, a lawyer, and orator belongs in both groups. The quote “Give me liberty or give me death!” is attributed to him from a speech he made in 1775 during the Virginia Conventions.
His impassioned speech is credited for Virginia’s ultimate decision to send troops for the American War of Independence. That revolution, in turn, led to the founding of the United States of America as we know it today. Henry went on to become Virginia’s governor and is considered to be a Founding Father.
