Togo’s Heroic Run Across The Sound

Many of Togo’s stunts haven’t been documented, but the ones that have been told exist only because he helped Seppala live long enough to tell the tales. As the team raced through the darkness on the ice on the Norton Sound, the wind blew at astonishingly low temperatures of −65 °C, leaving Seppala at the mercy of his lead dog.
Togo rose to the fore. With his great sense of smell, he led the team straight across the ice until they reached a roadhouse at Isaac’s Point and stopped to rest. They had covered a great distance, but they were exhausted and barely prepared for what lay ahead.
