Who wouldn’t envy a cat’s life? My neighbor indeed does. He’s there in his garden, a grown man, concealed by greenery, meowing at passersby. It’s a sight that would startle anyone, but there’s no harm in him. His folks watch over him—kind souls who’ve made peace with their son’s peculiar ways.

His dad once shrugged off to me that his son just likes to be a cat. No more questions asked, no more answers needed. In our little corner of the world, we have our very own alley cat, and that’s just fine.
