Young Ulrich’s Season 1 Hint at His Love for “The Breakfast Club”

During the transition from 2019 to 1986 in the first season, young Ulrich utters the phrase, “When you grow up, your heart dies.” This seemingly innocuous line is a subtle reference to the 1985 movie “The Breakfast Club,” where the character Allison also delivers the exact same statement.
This reference carries significance as it hints at shared themes of loss, innocence, and the inevitable passage of time explored in both “Dark” and “The Breakfast Club.” In the latter, five students from diverse social backgrounds find themselves spending a Saturday in detention, ultimately discovering their commonalities. In this series, the characters grapple with mortality and life’s impermanence.
