The Mysterious Cry

During one of his routine walks in the woods outside town, Jonathan was certain he heard the faint cries of an animal in distress. Pausing to listen, he caught the sound again—a soft, plaintive call resembling that of a puppy. How could a puppy have ended up so deep in the forest?
