Kirk Douglas – Communications Officer: 1941

Kirk Douglas was an all-American actor and filmmaker known for Western and war films. He graduated from St. Lawrence University and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the vaunted Submarine Chasers unit for three years, leaving the service with a Lieutenant Junior Grade rank.

After the war, Douglas returned to New York City and began acting. He made his film debut on “The Strange Love of Martha Ivers” in 1946. Some of the movies he also appeared in include “Champion” and “Out of the Past.” The patriarch of one of Hollywood’s most iconic show business families died in 2020.
