The “Princess Auto Mechanic” Serving During World War II

Having served as the United Kingdom’s reigning monarch for almost seven decades, Queen Elizabeth II has done a lot for her country. In fact, she began even before she donned her crown in the early ’50s by joining the military during World War II. 

After convincing her father King George VI, she undertook mechanic training leading her to be nicknamed “Princess Auto Mechanic” by the Associated Press. She lived up to the name, too, as she learned how to change tires and rebuild engines during her time of service. Queen Elizabeth even exchanged her usual ladylike dress attires for rugged overalls!
