A Woman Warmly Welcomes A Soldier Upon Belfort’s Liberation
A few months after the success of D-Day in June 1944, the Allied forces’ Liberation Army reached the commune of Belfort in France. And this woman was among the people who were grateful upon seeing ally troops marching in on their town.
According to the caption that came with this photo on Alamy, the woman exclaimed, “Tout Belfort est libre!” or “All Belfort is free!” to the American soldier pictured on the right. The soldier, in turn, appeared happy to be receiving such a warm welcome after enduring several days of battling enemy forces.
