The Day Sweden Began Driving On The Right Side Of The Road
Without context, this photo may seem like just one horrendous traffic jam. In reality, though, this incredible image of a street in Sweden depicts Dagen H (H-Day), which marked the country’s switch to driving on the right side of the road on September 3, 1967.
The change was in part motivated by the fact that the country’s citizens drove vehicles made by car manufacturers like Volvo, which placed the steering wheel on the left-hand side. What’s more, it was Sweden’s attempt to follow suit as its European neighbors were already driving on the right at the time.
