Jakob Nacken, The German Army’s Tallest Recruit

Standing at a towering seven foot six, Jakob Nacken was believed to be the tallest recruit of the German army during World War II. A former circus performer, his military stint came to an end in September 1944 when Corporal Bob Roberts captured him along with his compatriots in the city of Calais in France.
Their capture led to this amusing interaction between Nacken and Roberts, who stood at about five foot six. The former was later taken to the United Kingdom as a prisoner of war but later freed to live his life in the United States.
